Summer Reading Pt 4

I have told you that you should buy this book but I haven't told you why I chose it for my summer reading project. We were supposed to look up books that are winners of the Printz Award books from any year. When I searched the only one that caught my eye was the book Midwinter Blood. At first it was the title that really jumped out at me just the way it was written on the book in scarlet cursive then I read its description as it talked about seven stories that unfold into one main story that reminded me of short story called The Last Question which was amazing to me.

Specifically I would recommend this book to any of my family member because, one I already have and two, I believe that they would think it just as great as I do. Others would be people who love mystery books or books with short fast chapters with a lot of twists that aren't expected. And of course I recommend it to those who like the romance novels that get kind of soppy at times because this book has a lot of that. But yes go find and read this book because it is pretty great.

Summer Reading Assignment Pt 3

If you aren't already interested allow me to spark your interests for a second while i show you some of the thrilling parts of this great book.
"He is steps from the stone table, and there is Tor at his side as he is pulled backward toward it, kicking and screaming, screaming.
They rip his shirt from his back, cast him onto the table, still pinning him fiercely. The stone rips into his skin, the sun almost blinds him, but hi wide terror-starting eyes have time to see Tor draw a massive curved knife from somewhere. Hands it to Henrik, who steps forward.
In another corner of his tunneling vision, he sees a face he knows. A face he has known for always.
Merle looks down at him, Merle looks down at him, tilting her head.
She whispers to him.
"I followed you'".
Sedgwick, Marcus. "Midsummer Sun." Midwinter Blood. 53-54. Print.

So if you didn't understand that little bit from the passage what is happening is the main character, Eric Seven is captured on the other side of the island in a church unlike any he had ever seen and is about to be killed. If that didn't interest you that I don't know what will, I really hope all who read this go and buy the book.

Summer Reading Assignment Pt 2

Midwinter Blood has a theme that is plainly stated inside the passage. That theme is love can out last all things even time. Eric's whole purpose throughout the story has been to get back to his wife after he was killed as a sacrifice by his own people. Merle's goal is the same. After being separated from her husband all she did for generations was try to be reincarnated with the man she loves. Tor's goal isn't to just break the couple up. No, Tor wants to sacrifice the reincarnated King so that children will be born on the island once more.
Time to talk about the book itself; the book is set up like a burger with several different layers. First the bun the main story before anything really begins to unfold. Then the pickles, lettuce, tomatoes all of the little stories that eventually build up to the meat of the problem. Then the book puts you back at the bun where all of the stories come together. At first it is really confusing but it gradually begins to make more sense as you read in.
Since the book is structured so that there are several small stories it doesn't give the character enough time to show and depth which makes it hard to like any characters other than the main three that constantly show up over and over in the story. Even then the characters only show a small side of themselves.

Summer Reading Assignment Pt 1

This year for my summer reading assignment I read Midwinter Blood by Marcus Sedgwick. There is a remote island called Blessed where no one ages, and no children are born, this is where our stories take place. On this mysterious island seven stories unfold: the story of the archaeologist, an airman, a painter, a ghost, a vampire and that of a Viking King. They are stories of mystery, horror, tragedy and a love so powerful and passionate it shatters time. This is Midwinterblood.
There are seven stories but only a few main characters. There is Eric the protagonist throughout the book. Since the book is comprised of several different stories he doesn't have one specific goal other than to be reunited with his wife Merle. Although the book doesn't go into depth on his character he is seen as the kind King who will do what he needs to for his people. Merle along with Eric shows up several times and even has a story told from her point of view as she helps one of Eric's reincarnated selves as a young girl aiding an old man in his final hours. Merle is seen as the loving wife and Queen that any king could ask for. As always the antagonist in a story like this is someone who wants the power and life that the King has. That person in this story is Tor. Tor is the one tries to separate the lovers at every turn and it is he who they must escape from to really be happy.
Something that I really like is how the author uses small short stories to eventually come together as on large story. Another writer that does this is Isaac Asimov who wrote a short story in 1956 called The Last Question. Unlike Isaac, Marcus Sedgwick goes back in time with each new story instead of progressing toward an eventual conclusion.
That is all I have to say on the book for now. Other than that I do recommend it its a great read until next time.

His Daughter~Molly Kate Kestner

So I was surfing YouTube like many people do I'm sure. Anyway I found this video that when viral in April that you probably know about. Its called His Daughter by Molly Kate Kestner and for a girl who looks to be around my age has the voice of some one much much older and sings amazingly. even as I'm writing this and listening to this song  I am at a complete loss for words at how amazing this girl is. I am diffidently going to recommend this video to everyone I know because as a guy it is extremely rare for a song to make you tear up and it may sound exaggerated but just wait till you hear her sing that she wrote on her own about a story that sounds as if it was told by someone much older is amazing to me and the millions of others who watched this video. I am so excited to see how her life turns out as an artist and as a person.

Ranger's Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan

People have always been suspicious of the Rangers, a group of people who practice magic. The Rangers secret duty is to fight the battles of the kingdom before it reached the people. And now Will a 15 year-old boy, will be chosen to become one of these Rangers. He would be trained in the skill of battle and surveillance to fight in the large battle brewing against the exiled Morgararth Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night who is gathering is forces against the kingdom once again.
I have not yet started this book but cant wait till I do because it sounds great and is much like the Brother Band  series which I have greatly admired. Go check out the book on GoodReads.

Audio Book VS Reading

Okay so for a long time my brother and I have been having an argument about which was better listening to an audio book or reading the book on your own. I think its better to listen rather than read and if you want to hear what he has to say about it go ask him. Anyway listening is better in more ways than one. The pros of listening are: the book gets done faster, if it is a SiFi book with jargon that the reader may not be able to pronounce on his or her own, a third reason would be that if you are listening to the audio book on the go you get the book done even faster where as you would have to be stationary to to read a book well.
After you read this comment which you think is better and why.

Movie Review! The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

This week I am changing things up. This week instead of reviewing what happened in my book I'm going to review a movie that I watched and loved. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is about a photo editor for a huge magazine company called "Life". Walter is great at his job but his company is downsizing and moving toward the more digital future. So the for the last magazine article their best Photographer sends in his best work his master piece but Walter can’t find it. This movie is the amazing and wonderful story of a photo editor goes on an amazing trip around the world chasing this lost picture and the Photographer.
I love this story because it’s about how this simple guy who has had the same routine for years and has dreamed about taking an amazing adventure around the world and he finally built the courage to do so. Another thing I loved about the movie is the soundtrack that was put together for it every song really accentuated the actions of the characters. Personally I give the movie a 10/10. Its inspirational because it shows not just the general anyone can do bla bla bla if they put their mind to it. It shows almost without doing so makes each person want to visit the places he travels to because I know that personally i want to go to Iceland and see it for all its beauty. I am diffidently not the only one who reviewed this movie because if you go to IMDb it was given a 7.4/10 which is still very good and I encourage everyone to go watch it. Until next time. PIECE!

Reddit and The Last Question by Isaac Asimov

The past weekend I was in Reddit. Reddit is basically a social media app like twitter but slightly different. Anyway while I was on Reddit I saw an interesting question which was, If you are picked by mankind to ask an all knowing being one question what do you ask, the whole world is watching. As I was pondering my own answer I started reading the comments and several people started talking about a short Si-Fi story called The Last Question and still not knowing my answer I read the short story. It was really good inspiring and interesting. The story is actually several different stories on top of each other to make on story. It starts off talking about two friends who were talking and having a good time when and argument arises and they ask this super computer to answer the question that sprouted the argument but the super computer doesn't have an answer. That where their story ends and the next begins but hundreds of years in the future following a family and eventually in their story the same question comes up and still this seemingly all knowing being has no answer. This keeps happening in the other mini-stories and in in the end the question is answered with one grand demonstration. It all begins with 4 words LET THERE BE LIGHT!
The beginning of the story might seem boring but the underlying message is really good and me personally would give it a 5 out of 5 i really recommend this to any and everyone. And as a final question If you are picked by mankind to ask an all knowing being one question what do you ask, the whole world is watching. Choose wisely.

What You Have Missed

The last time I posted it was before spring break and I have a lot to fill you in on. First of all I finished Eragon the second book in its series Eldest. I also finished the last book of the Mortal Instruments series. The book that I am currently reading is called Brisingr by Christopher Paolini. Brisingr is the 3rd book in the Inheritance series (the series that Eragon and Eldest come from). It is a great series but I kind of cheated on my reading. Instead of reading Eldest I listened to it because I don always have time to sit down and read.
Anyway back to Brisingr. This book is fantastic so far it is 763 pages long so if I were you I would brace myself for two things. 1 a lot of posts about this book, and 2 a lot of spoilers form parts of the first two that I have already read. Sadly filtering spoilers is going to be hard because since it is a series there are so many interlocking details that could give away parts of the other books. Until next time, Atra esterni ono thelduin.

Giving Up

I'm giving up on the book {catalyst and starting/continuing another book. The book is called Eragon by Christopher Paolini. I may or may not have talked about it before I don't remember. It started as a book then became a movie a few years ago. It only covered the first half of the first book. Sadly it didn't do well enough to get another movie that covered the other half.
If you haven't heard of the book or seen the movie I recommend that you go buy or rent the book. You could buy the movie but only after you have read the book, I wont say I hate but I strongly dislike people who see movies before reading the book and thinking the movie is better. Anyway so for those of you who don't know this book follows a 17 year-old boy who finds a polish blue stone in the forest, he believes it to be a lucky find for a poor farm boy. Until the stone brings forth a dragon hatching. hid new discovery undoubtedly changes his life forever as he is thrust into a battle that will decide the fate of his homeland.
For all of you who are into mystery, fantasy, mid-evil, and Little bit of romance I recommend this book to you. And if you don't believe me you can go to goodreads.com and see that it has an over all rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Until next time bye!

First Post of Trimester #3

Since it is the beginning of the third trimester I have deiced to start a new book its called {catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson. Sadly blogging day in Mrs. Palmer's class came a little early and I'm only 25 pages into my book so all I can do is recap whats happened and predict. I know, I know a boring first post of the Tri but its all I can do.So a quick recap of the first 25 pages in a sense would be confusing yet kinda funny.
Let me explain. The book follows the life of a High School girl names Kate Malone an insomniac who is just trying to finish out her senior year and get into MIT. The only College she applied to hence her insomnia. Another thing weird about Kate is that she kind of has split personalities and they hit on that a lot on the first page. Her split personalities are good Kate and bad Kate. " Bad Kate mutters that they need to start washing their own clothes.". Bad Kate is more of her selfish side that resents her family and is mainly her meaner side, the side we all have like it or not. Good Kate is her nice and polite side the side she shows her pears and her family. So in the story when she says "Bad Kate" it refers to her, in a sense, darker self.
Like i said earlier I'm only 25 page in and I'll blog back when I'm farther. Later!

I NEED A NEW SERIESE

So if you read the last post that was posted you know that I'm reading The House of Hades. Once I finish this I'm going to be pretty much out of books to read till the next book comes out. A bummer to say the least. Sooo I'm here to ask you, my very few readers, to help get a new series started. One that I could get into. One that I could write about to you guys. And one that I could use for my final blog assessment.
If you haven't read past posts the books / series that I have read are The Mortal Instalments, the Percy Jackson series, Heros of Olympus, The Pendragon series , The Kane Chronicles ,and Maximum Ride. All amazing series that are really action packed and will keep you wanting more.
If you have any book ideas please comment below.

The House of Hades

I recently finished The Mark of Athena and needless to say it was amazing and I cant to start The House of Hades. In a quick symmetrization of the ending of the last book, they win. Well not exactly win per say, its more of a we'll give our sanity and possible life so that you can take a all powerful statue to our base and stop a 2nd civil war type thing. To clarify Percy and Annabeth were dragged into Tartarus while the other five members of their party took the Athena Pantheons back to Camp Half-blood to stop the Romans from attacking them.

Now that we are all on the same page I can tell you some things i cant wait to figure see play out in this book.
1.)  The remaining party have the very dificult choice to either go back to Camp Half-Blood and stop the Roman campers from attacking them, or they could go to the doors of death and help Percy and Annabeth close it from this side and hinder Gia in her plot to destroy the world.
2.) Another thing I want to find out is how Tarterous will change Percy and Annabeth as characters and how it will shape their relationship.
If you can answer these questions please keep that to your self.

451

In English we have started reading the book Fahrenheit 451 and I'm going to summarize what happens in the first section because this book doesn't really have chapters. The story follows a fireman who's name is Montag. He isn't like the fireman that live in our world today. Instead of put out fires these fireman start them but they don't burn houses they burn books.
Anyway back to Montag, the story starts following him after he gets done at work and is on his way home when he meats a 17 year old girl named Clarisse who is a strong pushing force for Montag. She leads him to begin to question aspects of his life and society. After their walk he returns home to find his wife half dead due to drug overdose, which she survives and doesn't remember the next day. I know it sounds dark but its a pretty good book read it for your self and find out.

The City of Lost Souls

I have been in the middle of this book for I don't know how long and now I finally decided that I would start over. Yes start over a book that is over 500 pages crazy right. To be honest it wasn't that bad because as soon as I started reading I remembered what was going on and all I really had to do was skim through the pages until I got to the unfamiliar parts. I know what your thinking that I could have missed parts and details that could be really important but really its kind of a repeat of what has been happening in The Mortal Instruments books and nothing much changes.
Whats basically happening in this book is Jace was taken buy his "brother" and they are not bonded togther by dark magic, Clary is looking for him to free him from her brother, Sebastian, and go back to whatever normalcy they had and kill Sebastian. As you can see nothing much has changed...well nothing I can tell you without giving away some big spoilers. I will ad to this post when I finish the book I hope you read the rest then. Bye.
